We have the official Iowa City Gallery Walk map for this Friday! Come see me at #15, which is the Artifactory gallery— also listed as Arts Iowa City on google maps. Artifactory is located in a multi-business church building that is adjacent to Pop’s BBQ. The gallery is in the basement, so you will be going down steps (there is also a small elevator). For parking, you might check street parking in the Northside and walk via the alleyway at Marco’s Grilled Cheese.
Back-to-Back Events in Iowa City this Weekend!
We have two back-to-back events happening this weekend! Tomorrow, Friday night is my Reception with Iowa City's Artifactory from 7-9pm. The following Saturday morning will be Lib Con at Iowa City Library where you can enjoy a mini artist alley at which I will have a table. More info on Lib Con can be found here!
Also note that the Artifactory exhibit has been extended to October 23. Outside of the Reception, the gallery can be visited on Saturdays from 1pm-3pm and Friday, October 13th from 5- 8pm for the Iowa City Art Walk. There are a few more special events where it will be open, so keep an eye on updates on the Artifactory website.
Reception Aftermath and Book Cover Update
Time really flew by this past month following the Reception at Press Coffee. Here I am at the Reception looking exhausted, exited, and full of nerd energy. It was a great show and it was so awesome to interact with folks who have similar tastes in strange and whimsical fantasy art.
I have some big art updates, so the focus this month is to catch you up on all the book covers I wrapped up! I will be able to dive deeper behind the scenes in the next newsletter.
My cover art and typography design for middle grade adventure novel, Serenade of the Sasquatch. This is the first book to be published for Ann Wyld books, a new middle grade imprint for this indie publisher.
This is a fun cover I did for a spiritual Sci Fi book that was a long time coming and will be released June 3. I loved being able to focus on a colorful pattern and non-human subjects.
Princess Rouran is YA fantasy that features a twist on Chinese mythology. Another dragon cover? Yes please!
My most recent cover finished for The Preserve for Enchanted Creatures. Amanda has a kickstarter for the book here. The artwork for this cover had quite a daring color scheme, but I am quite pleased with the results!
Next up, I will have another local Iowa City show, this time with Artifactory from August 22-September 18. Reception time TBA!
Art Show Announcement
I am happy to announce that I have an upcoming art display at Press Coffee in Iowa City, Iowa. Press Coffee moved to Iowa City from Coralville in 2020 and has quickly established itself. It has the best French press in town and a generous selection of loose leaf teas, coffee, and baked goods. The cafe is both spacious and cozy with all sorts of nooks and crannies to study in and decked-out walls with rotating art selections.
On display will be a wide range of originals and prints from my personal and commercial projects. The artwork will be up from March 12 to April 16 with a Reception on March 23 from 6pm-8pm. Additional work will be on display at the Reception including sketchbooks, small works, and collectible stationery.
In other recent news, entries for this year's Infected By Art Annual have been judged and winners announced! You can see the amazing entries that made it in to IBA 11 here. I am honored to have my book cover illustration for Eve Archer selected for inclusion. Every year the wonderful people of IBA print a beautiful book with the winning entries displayed at no less than a half-page. Getting a copy of the book is a major factor that I submit entries.
I have a couple of book covers that are not quite ready to share, but I do have one new character illustration. This is the main protagonist and his magical alley cat for J. Michael White's Dragon Metal series!
